post sunday morning modal

I got a Yamaha C-2 baby grand piano 6 weeks ago.  I’ve been playing nonstop!  Also doing a lot of recording.  I’ve been trying every mic configuration and placement under the sun.   This recording is using a M/S pair with a Rode NTK as mid and 414 in figure 8 as side.  Then I set up an ORTF with akg c1000′s up in the loft of my apartment facing down.  Blended the two, no added reverb….damn that piano sounds deep! Also going through vintech 473 preamp.

Musically playing a pseudo-phrygian improvisation.  Listen for the visit from the cricket—my cellphone ringing!

post hello

here I am, wondering what I should be doing with my life. no matter what, something else will always seem better than what I am doing now. the past the future. if I could see myself now from the outside, from someone else’s eyes, I’d probably be jealous. saying to myself, I wish I had done with my life what that person is doing. It’s always easier for you to look somewhere else rather than to own up to your own life and give yourself credit for it. Not that I shouldn’t be trying to go somewhere, but I won’t get anywhere unless I really understand who I am now.
